A field of lush, tall grass swayed gracefully from side to side in the breeze that traversed it's way over the field on the moonless night. Away from the bright lights and noise of the city trudged the sable haired youth. On his back he carried a sable rifle, seemingly modeled after the Dragunov Sniper Rifle, but lacking the scope and clip. His clothing as black as his rifle consisted of a light weight breastplate that only covered his chest, a pair of grieves, a pair of gauntlets, slick black leather pants, and a black long sleeve shirt. The shocking thing was, as dark as the clothing and gun were, they looked gray compared to the boys hair. Had it been let down, the darker than raven black tress would've have been mid length, but instead was spiked backwards in messy spikes with his bands hanging down the sides of his face in rather jagged fang-like forms. His hair contracted directly with his seemingly flawless pale skin. In the darkness of the night, his eyes shown a bright sky blue.
His eyes turned upwards toward's the sky, the youth looked up at the constellations he saw. Suddenly a voice sounding like a strident spear of frigid winter wind pierced through the serenity of the calm night, a voice belonging to the youth. "How long have you been standing there?" the youth asked, his eyes not leaving the black velvet sky draped above him. Behind him stood a Mobian hedgehog, Mobian's being anthropomoprhic animals somewhat shorter than humans. The gray hedgehog that stood behind the youth was fully grown, yet still stood a full head shorter at full height, making him one of the taller Mobians.
Hearing no response, the boy repeated his question, not a single emotion flicking onto his face or entering his voice. "Does it matter, Sentenza Hoshizuki?" the hedgehog asked. "How do you know my name?" the boy asked, his eyes narrowing as he turned arround. The boys lithe fingers reached for his weapon. In response to the threat, the Mobian curled into a ball and spun in a rapid spin at the youth, apparently named Sentenza. Sentenza flipped over his assailant and with battle toned reflexes beyond his years drew his gun a fired a shot. The shot was no ordinary bullet, it was a compacted ball of darkness, the gun merely acted as medium for the darkness to be loosed at a foe, while still imparting the speed and power it would impart to a bullet. The hedgehog spun and sent the bullet reeling off into the sky. As he uncurled and fully showed his face to the boy for the first time, it having been obscured when he curled up, one name entered Sentenza's mind. A name he had heard many times in bed time stories told by his father, "Grey".
"You are you're fathers son, using a gun that fires darkness, Sentenza." Grey said, simply standing there. "You should be ready for the oncoming storm, though just barely." The hedgehog turned and starting walking off into the night. "Wait, what's your name?" Sentenza called out after the hedgehog. Grey paused and looked over his shoulder, his quills making a barely detectable rustling noise as he did so. "Judging by the look on your face, you already know." Grey said before turning back towards some unseen objective, and then walking off into the night. Sentenza eyes turned upwards towards the pitch black new moon. "Grey . . ." Sentenza said, letting the name echo within the confines of his mind. "Were my father's stories not just stories?"
The next morning Sentenza awoke in his bed. Trying to remember whether the short battle the previous night had simply been a dream, he merely needed to look at his gun. The gun registered that one more shot had been fired than before he had gone off to star gaze. The fight had been real. As Sentenza pulled on his clothing, he remembered what Prairie, the commander of the organization that he worked with known as the Guardians, had asked him. New recruits were coming today, and Sentenza had been asked to show them around the base. Technically, Sentenza was only the mechanic for the massive flying ship that was used as a base (though he was no slouch in fight, and easily trumped most of the other guardians in physical strength), but he was more than qualified to introduce the base to some new recruits.
Sentenza, finding no reason to bring his gun with him, simply walked out the door to his room and walked to the lobby just outside the teleportation and mission assignment room known as the transerver. Two people walked out of the room, Sentenza eyes locked on one of them. A beatiful girl just about half a year under Sentenza's age (Sentenza being 16), with a bright smiling face and short red hair the was gently swayed backwards with a few straggling bangs hanging downwards in front. She had bright green almond shaped eyes, and fair skin, though nearly not as pale as Sentenza's. An orange t-shirt was on her upper body, with a red skirt that reached 3/4 down her thigh. She was accompanied by a digimon, a Guilmon.Exe. Like their cousins, the Guilmon.Exe was reptilian that walked on two feet and 3 claws on each limb with ears perked backwards and shaped like chiropteran wings. Unlike they're cousins, the Guilmon, Guilmon.Exe were already at the highest level, came in a variety of colors and had sharp spines running down their backs to the tips of their tales.
"The new recruits I suppose?" Sentenza asked, breaking his gaze from the red haired girl. "Oh, um yes, I'm Arez, and this is Astro." the girl said. "Have a last name?" Sentenza asked. "We don't remember." Arez said. Astro glared with distrustful eyes as Sentenza, though they were met with Sentenza eyes, which had turned a dark midnight blue in the bright light of the Base's halls. "You look a little young to be a recruiter." Astro said in a low snarling voice. "I'm not, recruiting is held in the storage closets." Sentenza said. "Why is that?" Arez asked. "We're a little low in the money department right now." Sentenza said. "So which closet?" Arez asked. "First on the left." came Sentenza's prompt surprise. He was a little worried, his father was the recruiter and his father was well, a little bit strange.
"Thank you." Arez said, walking in the direction of the closet Sentenza had described. Astro shot a glare at Sentenza from his shoulder. Sentenza just stared emotionlessly back. "I don't like that guy." Astro growled to Arez. "Oh calm down, he seemed nice enough." Arez replied, chiding almost like an older sister. After a few minutes in the storage closet, a loud shout came, "Did you just call me , ma'am!?" Sentenza turned towards the closet. "Shit." he swore under his breath as he ran toward the source of the shout. His entrance wasn't the best for the tension, coming bursting through the door. It was a surprisingly large closet. His father, the almost infamous Sabata Hoshizuki was pointing his signature weapon, the dark gun Gun Del Hell at Arez. Before Sentenza could say a word, with lightning speed, Astro had Sabata pinned to the wall. Yet again, before the silence could be broken, Sabata burst out laughing. "This one's a keeper!" be belted out. "Things shouldn't be boring with this one around, both-a-you are hired, I haven't had this much excitement in a long time!" Sentenza sighed. "You're drunk aren't you?" he asked. "Just a little his father replied."
Sentenza escorted the two new Guardians out of the "Recruiting Room", and started on their tour. Arez had been a letter bee, a person tasked with being a courier in the dark times the world was in. She was capable of using a Heart Gun, a weapon capable of firing small fragments of her spiritual heart, which would reform after some rest. Astro had been her protector, or Dingo. Both more than worthy recruits.
As they left engineering, where Sentenza worked, Astro still bore the distrustful glare, and Arez seemed happy and calm as ever. "We're also short on rooms right now. It'll take a while to have one prepared, or I can let you stay in my room until then." Sentenza said. Before Arez could respond, which was apparently going to be an acceptance of the offer, Astro said, "We'll wait." Sentenza nodded. "I'll go get sleeping bags for you two." With that, he left the two alone.
