English 110 is an introduction to different forms of creative writing such as poetry, novels, novella, short stories, plays and the like. The class will be a lot of writing projects with little lecture so be prepared for this.
How to Succeed in this Class
Success in this class is dependent upon the following:
Required Texts:
Course Requirements:
*Creative Assignments: There will be three major works due in this class and this will count for 40% of your grade. The works will be on three separates subjects(Poetry, Short Stories, and Plays) and shall be explained in further detail before they are due.
*Journal: 20% of your grade will be your daily journal. You can have it in whatever medium best suits you, a sketchbook so you may draw, a simple notebook or an actual journal. Be warned these should be school appropriate because I will read them. Keep this in mind. You will have 5 minutes before class starts to work on them. Each day will have a set question you are to answer for the journal in any way you see fit and anything it reminds you of.
*Participation: 15% of your grade is just participating in class discussions...chances are if I know your face and name you are getting the full points.
*Homework: 10% of your grade will be little writing assignments that I will have you do such as a poem to bring to class or a one page character summary.
*Final Exam: 15% of your grade is simply this last exam. It is a presentation/reading of your choice through which medium. Note these presentations must be a minimum of 10 minutes long so if you do something like poetry make sure to have multiple that connect or fit together. The same goes for plays and short stories.
General Policies:
Students are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and express opinions. At the same time, I expect all
students to be respectful and courteous at all times. While drinks are allowed in class, food is not, so be sure to eat breakfast prior to class. The use of cell phones in any capacity (including but not limited to phone calls, texting, tweeting, twiterature checking email or voicemail, paging, downloading, surfing the internet, listening to music or radio, watching tv, geocaching or simply checking the time) during the class period is expressly prohibited. Cell phones must be turned off and stored prior to the start of each and every class period. The use of PDAs and computers is allowed, but please limit their use to work pertaining to class. If computers are repeatedly used for activities other than taking notes in class, their use in the classroom will not be allowed at all.
Academic Dishonesty:Academic dishonesty will not be permitted at any time. If you are caught cheating you will receive a failing grade on said assignment which will severely impact your final grade. If you are caught more then three times you will automatically fail the class and be put up to a hearing for academic dishonesty for suspension from the school.
Extra Credit: Extra credit opportunities may be announced throughout the semester.
Inclement Weather: In general, the University does not cancel class for bad weather. However, in the case of any unexpected circumstances that may impact our class meeting, the professor will inform you by email, if possible. If time does not permit this, an announcement will be posted at the classroom door(barring any unforeseen circumstances).

How to Succeed in this Class
Success in this class is dependent upon the following:

- Attend class every day! I cannot stress this enough, if you aren't here you don't get the full exposure to the material.
- Take Notes and ask questions! There is quite a few different things you will need to know so asking questions is beneficial to you.
Required Texts:
- 101 Famous Poems by Roy Cook
- A journal/notebook/sketchbook for your journal.
- 50 Famous People by James Baldwin
