Summary:
She generally dresses in a conservative manner – usually a pencil skirt, circle skirt, or a more plain ankle length skirt for her bottom half and a blouse or simple button down for her upper half. Occasionally she will be a little adventurous with her apparel, wearing vests or ties to give her a slightly more masculine appearance or wearing more vibrant, or even insane, colors – the former is more common than the latter. Of course, at certain times of year, Ms. Imthor will dress slightly differently, in summer the skirts might get a bit shorter or the blouses and shirts might be replaced with tank-tops, but this is not the norm, except at the hottest times of the year. And, in the winter, sweaters might go overtop her top and/or a heavy ankle length pea coat will go overtop everything. She does wear pants on occasion, but there is little rhyme or reason as to why or when. For her feet, her style is somewhat more versatile, often she will wear flats with knee high socks, but she often also wears thick soled boots that go up to her knees, and she occasionally will wear heels, usually low, high for special occasions, and at still other times she’ll wear sandals. Headwear is extremely rare, and so we won’t even mention it. And over her eyes, well, she does wear glasses (she has three pairs, black, blue, and red square frames), but she also has contacts, and which she uses depends on how tired she is in the morning and what suits her outfit.

Likes: Cooking (especially baking); writing (especially plays and letters); the human mind; attention (though she’d never admit it); pillows
Dislikes: Frozen food (except for phyllo); the hard sciences (though she’s taken them); most alcoholic drinks (though she might still drink in a social setting); Bidoof (who doesn’t?); being asked what her likes and dislikes are
Strengths: Well, it’s something in her likes, but Atsuko is a pretty good chef; she’s good at analyzing and working with philosophy, as long as she’s interested in it
Weaknesses: She’s susceptible to many types of charms; it can be hard for her to be openly disdainful of someone
Personality:
Kind, sweet, soft, loving, all those good things that are stereotypically associated with women – yeah, Atsuko displays those traits, at least on the surface, at least in most company. For the most part, she’s sort of meek and quiet, not to some absurd degree, but in a more normal way, in that she tends not to speak unless she has something to say, feels awkward not saying something, or is around people she feels comfortable with – put her in a room with strangers and she’ll talk but only inasmuch as she is talked to or only in nice pleasantries. Of course, every now and then she finds she needs to speak up, usually when she feels the need to correct someone, usually for their faulty ideas, idiotic opinions, or wrong facts and though such instances tend to be rare, it seems to be one of the things people remember the most about her – that she feels the need to correct people all the time. She is alright with that, but she would prefer to be seen as a slightly more well rounded person.
Her interests, academically, lie predominantly in psychology and gender issues. Though, I do not want to get too far into the reasons why, especially since it is sort of a secret, something Atsuko does not feel comfortable talking about. In addition, she enjoys writing, her primary interest here lies in plays (primarily in imitation of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus and the Renaissance playwright Machiavelli) and letters (primarily in imitation of Petrarch and Machiavelli), but she’s at least dabbled in most genres at least once in her short, beginner career. Many of her writings deal with themes of sexual identity and self-discovery through sex.
It’s funny, I’ve used the word sex a lot in the last sentence and I have not even gotten to that aspect of her personality that led Atsuko to join the hostess club last year. Well, the whole story of that you’ll read about later, when you get to her history, but let’s suffice it to say that Atsuko appreciates attention from the boys, even though she knows that she probably shouldn’t. It is just the way they treat her, appreciate the things she treats them – it’s sort of fun. She’s not the sort of woman who thinks that using her sexuality to control men is empowering or anything like that, it’s simply pleasure, nothing more. To be honest, this part of her life and personality does shame her, whenever she actually sits back and thinks about what she’s doing, but that other part of her, the so-called id, that part of her just wants to keep it up. Plus, why not have fun while you’re young?

History:
Atsuko’s upbringing seemed relatively normal at the time, nothing of particular note, at least nothing she can remember. Her father worked as a clerk or something for some business, she was never too clear on it and to be honest, she was never particularly interested in it either. Her mother stayed at home, which she loved when she was younger, appreciated when she was older, and is sort of ashamed of now. But, hey, that’s just the way it goes now, isn’t it? And now, looking back, she still realizes that she had a good upbringing, still loves her parents, and still is thankful for what her parents did for her, it just would have been nice if her mother could have gotten out of the house more, even if she was just having a bit of fun for herself. We believe that this had some bearing on the development of Atsuko’s opinions on gender and sexuality issues, as she saw and continues to see her mother as someone without a discrete identity, who is defined only in relation to the other members of her family, as opposed to as a unique individual. We would also comment on how accurate or inaccurate this comment is, but for the fact that Atsuko’s opinions and memories of her youth are more important than what actually took place.
So, elementary and middle school took place, but there is not all that much that really needs to be said about those two periods of Atsuko’s life, for nothing much that we can identify as essential to her long term intellectual or personal development took place there. We’ll talk of her time in high school next, since that seems slightly more appropriate and there are a few things of some importance there. So, at the start, Atsuko was a little afraid of going off to high school – she had heard all the scary stories and seen all the television shows and movies about the horrors of it (and sure, she knew that the televisions and movies were fiction and over exaggerations, but still, she was 14 and scared, so don’t be too mean to her). Her older brother did not help, either, telling her all sorts of terrible stories. Her only real hope was that what her mother said, that everything would work out fine, was true.
And in the end, things did work out fairly well. Sure, she was not the hot shot popular girl who “won” high school, but that would not have been the best thing for her in the long run anyway. Her clique of friends was sort of, well, sort of normal, I suppose is the best word for them. They were not particularly geeky or popular or jocky or any of the other stereotypes; she probably was the nerd of the group, or would have been if there was not some girl who LARPed who hung around with them. Maybe she would have been the smart one, but everyone thought the math and physics girl was smarter. Or the pretty one but, yeah, again, someone else. Maybe the problem is trying to fit people in general into these types rather than trying to find out what she was. But whatever the case may be, through high school, Atsuko did not have a readily and easily definable personality type, she was that girl to people who did not know her. She likes to blame this for why she became so interested in the mind and identity construction, but the truth is that that is just a cover and a lame excuse – she’s interested in those things because she is.
We should also talk about her relationships in high school too. For her first two years she did not really want to date or fool around. Sure, she gossiped about boys, went to a few dances, and even a couple of dates, but it was at best a half-hearted effort on her part and she could not say she was swept off of her feet by anyone. In her junior year, however, things changed. Atsuko started dating this boy, his names not important, but anyway, he did sweep her off her feet a bit, though looking back on it, that was probably due to her own hormones more than it was to his romantic nature or charms. Anyway, after a few dates she did sleep with him, which she did not find particularly satisfying, but they continued to date and fool around and sleep together despite that. After about two months, though, she found that their relationship had sort of changed – she could barely tell how it happened, but things were different. She seemed like she was treating him like… like her mother treated her father – she was acting like his good little housewife, like his servant (as she sees it now), but she liked it. It was a little bit unsettling, but no one else seemed to mind, and a part of her felt like that was how she was supposed to act. However, along with her change, it was matched by a change in his demeanor, as he became more aggressive and more demanding – it seemed as though the two went hand in hand, feeding off of one another. At a certain point, her friends intervened, as they could tell it was unhealthy, the way she was acting and how he was treating her, and though it was challenging, she did break it off. She found out something important about herself though, and that was that she enjoyed being submissive, not in a masochistic way, but socially.938/2028
After beating herself up over it, Atsuko talked with a guidance councilor who tried to console her and got her reading some feminist writings, which led to her pursuing more feminist philosophy and then moving on to academic work on gender and sexuality in her senior year of high school. And while she found the writings extremely interesting, they were not exactly helpful. Sure, she understood why the way she behaved was bad better than before, but the writings did not help her change the way she was or even understand why she wanted what she did. In the meantime, she enjoyed being a bit of a flirt, always playing shy and coy, always feeling bad about it afterwards. Atsuko had trouble embracing having fun for fun’s sake and separate it from what she knew was correct and right. When she went off to college, she did not really feel particularly excited to go off on her own, but she did anyway, knowing it was best for her, and picked a place that had a least a decent psychology and sociology department. Atsuko did not get in on a scholarship, but at the same time she did not “buy her way in.” She was accepted for academics but still has to pay for most of her tuition (alright, she has a partial scholarship).
At college, she started off taking Basic Biology, Developmental Psychology, Intro to Theatre, and Algebra classes. And in her second year she took Biopsychology, Statistics, English Composition and Controversial Social Issues. And now, she is taking General Chemistry, Deviance and Social Control, Gender and Sexuality, and Creative Writing, only one of which is so that she can satisfy those boring requirements that being a scientist needs. Well, that’s just the boring background, I suppose we can get to more juicy topics, but there is only one I want to cover. That would be Atsuko’s enrollment in the “Hostess Club.” When she first heard that a first year was starting something like this, Atsuko was sickened at the idea – a harem for boys to casually wander into, have their fun, and leave? But, like a dupe, she was talked into visiting by a friend, just to see what it was like and she ended up liking what she saw, very much so. It was like a sick little fantasy world, one where she could be giving and receiving titillation at the same time. She loved it. She rationalized it by telling herself that it would be a good outlet for her submissiveness (which it is) and that it could help her live normally, outside of it.
Well, that’s most of the story. The whole story as far as you get it. There are some holes, but those can be filled in later – no sense getting into too many of the details.
