Avery grimaced and sighed as her father bumped against the wall once more with the overbearing box that he insisted on carrying. In her own arms she carried a laundry basket full of odd nicknacks. Blood warmed her cheeks as students passed by, giving her a few glances.
What was so odd about a student moving in? It was moving day after all...and didn't most parents help out? Well, most parents were most likely not to make much of a scene. Adriano swore in Italian as he maneuvered through the small doorway. Once inside, he placed the final box on the bed. AJ set out to moving things from the box to various places around the room. She was highly anxious to get everything organized. When things were organized, she was at peace.
A sniffle caught her attention and baby blue orbs snapped up to her mother who held her hand against her mouth. AJ frowned, but moved closer to the other Cipriano woman, awkwardly embracing her.
After 18 years of traveling and being side-to-side with her parents, today was a rude awakening. She had chosen this college to get a feel of life on her own, but now she was wondering if she shouldn't have just continued classes online. She shook her head, clearing her thoughts. There would be plenty of time to see them. They had a home here in the town, but of course her father's business called them away often. This was the main reason for searching out a school where she could put down roots.
A lump formed in her throat and a hollow feeling settled in her chest as they said their goodbyes and promised phone calls and email. Of course, she had to fight to keep Teddy off campus, her father's personal body guard. She sighed as the door closed with a click, another reminder that she was alone and starting her new life.
Blue orbs flitted around the room, searching for something to organize or put away, but everything had neatly found a place. She shrugged and grabbed her wallet-lanyard combination and put it around her neck. She had fashioned it so her student ID hung from clip as well, making it much easier to slide when she had to access a part of the campus that required ID. Pocketing her cell, she opened the door and stepped into the hall.
Turning right, AJ headed for the main entrance to look for something to do. Maybe she would go to the cafeteria and get some food. Yes, food was always good. Her thoughts were interrupted abrupty as she hit something and stumbled back, muttering apologies quickly to whomever she had bumped into.

adelaide remembered this day last year as if it were yesterday. hauling in all of her things, arranging the furniture, and just generally getting everything set up the way she wanted it. it had taken quite a while, simply because she'd been doing it all on her own. everyone else who normally would have helped her had been very busy, so she'd only had some help getting her boxes to her door.
that had been enough, though, because she liked things a certain way and that meant she'd needed to do all of the fixing up by herself.
today, she wasn't moving in boxes or anything like that, she was just straightening up and getting rid of things she no longer needed or wanted. there was an unopened box just inside the door that held the things she'd collected over the summer, a couple of open boxes next to them that were slowly collecting throw-away items, and a trash can that was collecting any trash she ran across.
it took her around two to three hours to get everything finished and her new items put up properly. there was arranging and rearranging, moving and removing. but, in the end, she finally managed to get things in their proper places. she'd stood back, examining her work for a moment. and, satisfied, she'd begun taking her throw-away boxes out. she didn't take them to the trash, of course, she took them to the donation center. everything that was in them were perfectly usable.
and everything was in great condition, too. the items could be donated to children, in the case of the stuffed animals she was getting rid of, or to schools, in the case of the various folder and binders and the like that she no longer wanted or needed. the trash bin, that she took to the garbage. and, once she'd finished that up, she headed back towards her room.
only to bump into someone as she rounded a corner. "sorry about that." she gave a small smile, noting that she hadn't seen the girl around before and figuring that she must be a first year student. there were plenty of new students moving into the dorm today, it wouldn't have been unusual to bump into one while she was outside of her own room.

Avery tilted her head up. The girl was a bit taller than her, causing her to back up to get a better view of the person she had ran into. The first thing that Aj thought was strange was that this girl was apologized for something she didn't do. AJ was sure that she was the one that had bumped into the silver-haired girl.
"Oh, it's okay," Avery mumbled quietly. Azure orbs flickered down to her converse-clad feet then back up to the girl. "I'm AJ. I just moved in over here."
Obviously this girl was a resident here in the hall, or she wouldn't be here. AJ couldn't but wonder what year the girl was. Her mind began to wonder back to the food she was headed toward before she bumped into the girl. Then that was when she realized she wasn't exactly familiar with the campus yet and wasn't sure where the cafeteria was located.
Her parents had urged her to try and make friends during her university experience, but of course her social anxiety made this very hard, as well as most of the traveling she did as a child prevented her from making any real friends.
The teen rubbed the back of her head nervously before glancing back up at the girl. "Uh, you wouldn't happen to know where the cafeteria is, do you?" She asked, a small grin gracing her features sheepishly.

adelaide would probably never be the social type who spoke a lot to anyone, save for those who'd wormed their way into her heart. but she'd always been that way, as far as she could recall. keeping to herself, speaking only a little bit when she was spoken to first. it wasn't that she disliked people or didn't want to make any friends, she just found it hard to communicate sometimes.
it wasn't even shyness, really. she was just a loner who tended to say what was needed and then stop. she never wasted words, even though that usually made her look cold and distant and unfriendly. and it wasn't an easy task, getting her out of her shell and making her talk and carry on. a few had managed to do it but even they, sometimes, had a bit of trouble getting her to let loose.
sitting in her room tended to be more interesting than going out and having fun. but it wasn't like she never went out, or never spoke to others, or never had any fun. it just happened that her idea of fun was curling up in a comfy chair with a book. usually.
"adelaide. it's nice to meet you." right now, in fact, was a moment where she was feeling slightly more talkative than was her usual. just slightly. enough that making small conversation came naturally enough to her that she didn't have to think too hard. "what's your room number?" maybe she was just in a really good mood today, because she wasn't finding it hard at all to smile. even though it was only a small one, it wasn't forced at all.
at first, she thought about how best to give directions to the cafeteria. that is, before she decided that it would be a lot easier just to show the girl the way."i have nothing to do, so i'll show you where it is. it's simpler than just telling you how to get there." and, now that she was thinking about it, she was getting a little bit hungry herself.

"Oh, my room number? It's one-oh-one," she replied, glancing back over her shoulder, raven hair swinging at the motion. AJ's gaze came back around to the girl who had just introduced herself as Adelaide.
The girl gave AJ a small smile, but the Italian teen could tell it was genuine, which caused a small grin to flicker to life on her face.
When Adelaide offered to show her where the cafeteria was located, AJ nodded. Being a first year student, she had went on the recommended tour over the summer, but since the campus was so expansive, she hadn't exactly taken note of it's location. Instead, she had been trying to memorize where her dorm room and classes were.
"Thank you. I would appreciate it very much," she said, a small flash of white teeth showing before she headed to the door. "So, are you a freshmen too?" she asked as she pushed her way through the main door of the Van Ess building. Something about the way Adelaide talked and behaved put AJ at ease, and she found her dorm neighbor to be very easy to talk to despite her social anxiety
When she stepped outside, a warm breeze blew past them, ruffling her hair. It was pleasant, yet the afternoon air held a tinge of coolness, reminding AJ that fall was coming on and it was really starting to feel like school time again.
