“What are you fools doing?! Get the damn Phantom! I don’t pay you to run around like chickens with your heads cut off!” The roaring voice of the Police Sargent filled the latern lit streets of the Red Light District. Many inhabitants of the neighborhood shut their windows while others looked out curiously, wondering what the ‘Phantom’ had stolen this time. He continued to shout out orders, his face red with rage and embarrassment at having been outwitted once more by the elusive Phantom. Not far was a hooded figure watching from a roof top, soft tinkling laughter leaving the figures lips. With a swirl of a cloak the figure jumped from the roof, landing and rolling on impact from the roof underneath. The Phantom had struck again, stealing a precious painting by a local artist and leaving nothing but a black rose and a taunting note. No one knew who the Phantom was let alone if the Phantom was male or female and that’s just how the Phantom liked it. Strolling across the roof the figure looked up towards the sky, the moon revealing only blue eyes for a split second before the darkness of the hood shadowed the person’s face once more. The figure hummed softly and it sounded almost feminine. In the figures hand was a painting of a beautiful young woman kneeling by the water’s edge. It was awe inspiring and would catch a pretty penny, too bad the Phantom only donated to charities.
The Phantom hopped down from the roof onto a fire escape, pausing when the curtains to an apartment moved. For a moment, a young man glanced out from his apartment window and looked out at the Phantom. They stood like that for a moment before he ducked back inside and the Phantom hurried down the escape. Soft laughter filled the air as the Phantom slid down the ladder and landed lightly on their feet in an alleyway. The figure hurried down the alleyway, ducking into shadows and behind objects to avoid being seen before finally reaching a rather secluded area. Once the Phantom was sure the coast was clear the hood came off, revealing a young woman. Katelynn Rosendale smiled smugly as she looked down at her prize. She could feel her heart pounding and the roaring in her ears still signaling the rush of adrenaline that filled her and it was completely addictive. Each time she felt it, it felt like the first time all over again and she loved it. She let out another peal of laughter, twirling around happily before taking the cloak off herself with a flourish. She kneeled down and moved a couple of bricks from a building to reveal a good size hole with her messenger bag. She took it out and stuffed her cloak in it as well as carefully rolling the painting up and putting it into a black container. She swung both over her shoulders and put the bricks back. She took her phone out of her bag and noticed she’d gotten five missed calls, two from her brother and the others from her friends. She shrugged her shoulders before leaving the secluded area just at the edge of the Red Light District. She’d learned to lose them here so that they’d never suspect someone from outside the Red Light. Besides there were plenty of criminals here that needed to be captured and locked up.
She walked towards the nicer part of Radiant Garden and out of Red Light humming a soft tune. Her heart still racing at the knowledge that while she’d changed there was always the possibility of capture and it was exciting. She was only two blocks away when a police officer stopped her and looked at her suspiciously. Her golden blonde hair was up in its usual loose bun and her icy blue eyes watched the man curiously as she asked, “Is something wrong officer?”
He frowned at her question before gruffly asking, “Have you seen the Phantom around her? Or anyone suspicious looking in any case.” She gave him a puzzled looked before shaking her head, her heart racing a mile per minute. “I’m sorry. I only just left my friend’s house.” The officer looked disgruntled but nodded his head in thanks before he walked off. She watched him until he disappeared around a corner and she couldn’t help the slight smirk that curled her lips. Her mood lifted with her adrenaline high and she whistled a jolly tune as she continued to walk. Just as she turned a corner she came to a stop as she almost slammed into someone, a small surprised gasp leaving her lips as her heard jumped into her throat. A silent prayer being sent up that it was someone innocent.
